The New Value of Waste

ファッション業界の余剰在庫や廃棄生地に新たな価値を与え、生まれ変わらせるプロジェクトです。
日本の伝統的な技法である裂織りと絣織に着想を得て、オリジナルテクニックを開発しました。生地を細かく繊細にカットし、緯糸を作製し、織ることにより生地に加工します。また、手織りだけでなく量産が可能なように、織機にかけれる糸の開発も成功しました。このプロセスにより、プリント布の柄が絣織りのような繊細な表情に生まれ変わります。 また、織ることにより新たなテクスチャーや織組織による柄が加わり、オリジナルの柄と異なる生地になるので、著作権などの問題やブランドとしてのイメージを損なうこと無く生地の再利用をすることができます。
このプロジェクトでは、ロンドンのプリントメーカーJhon Kalder Fabric Makerから協賛を受け、在庫生地を使用し織生地に加工しました。

I am developing woven patterns from printed fabrics to add beauty to the print pattern through the technique of weaving, which was inspired by traditional ikat fabrics. Fascinated by the woven structures, I am trying to play with various patterns and their interaction with the materials and creating woven textiles which can be used for fashion products. One of the most important aspect of my theme is to recreate fabrics and to add value to the waste. There are a huge amount of waste materials generated by the fashion industry every season and I have been working with them. I innovated the way to utilise the waste materials and created original yarns out of waste. These yarns can be used for both industrial weaving looms and hand-weaving loom. Beautiful Ikat patterns from waste textiles are born again as completely new and beautiful materials.
