For this SAKIORI textile collection, she has developed the ORIGINAL SAKIORI technique and create designs using this technique inspired by Japanese traditional textile called Sakiori 裂織. She was inspired by Sakiori not only because of its technique and design, but also because She was deeply impressed by its philosophy.
Sakiori is a technique that was created in the past when Japan was not as wealthy as it is today, when resources were treated with care and reused over and over again.
Through my textile designs, she would like to convey to people around the world the way Japanese people treat things with care and care because she thinks this is a way of thinking that we should remember in this era where we are overflowing with things.
One of the most important aspect of her theme is to recreate fabrics and to add value to the waste. There are a huge amount of waste materials generated by the fashion industry every season and she has been working with them. She innovated the way to utilise the waste materials and created original yarns out of waste.
The discarded fabric was cut finely and delicately into weft threads, which were then woven into fabric.These yarns can be used for both industrial weaving looms and hand-weaving loom.
Beautiful Ikat patterns from waste textiles are born again as completely new and beautiful materials.
Distorted Stripes
The three-dimensional optical illusion pattern is expressed with original threads made of waste textiles. The pattern of the original threads emphasizes the shading of the optical illusion pattern, and the textile has a three-dimensional effect.
Three-dimensional Checkered
The distorted stripe pattern and the random color shade of the original textile threads make it a textile that makes you feel as if the cloth itself isdistorted or wrinkled.
The woven textiles will be one of a kind textile because the color and patterns of the original threads made out of waste textiles will be different from each lot which we can’t control it.
For this textile collection, Hana Mitsui collected four types of printed textiles from the printing factory in Kyoto, Japan and make them to the original yarn. Since 2021, Hana Mitsui has prepared the production background and realized this textile production.
